DUNGEON for Commodore 64

Dungeon is a complete role-playing game system Commodore 64 computers. It was written by David Caruso II, originally released through IFC Systems, and eventually made its way to the long-lived C64 disk magazine LOADSTAR, where it was published on issue 74.

Dungeon itself is not a game, but a game system. It's a way to make and main characters and create adventures for them to go on. You can take your characters into modules, on floppy disk, made by other people. LOADSTAR would publish five of these adventures throughout its run, and all five of them are included in this package. You can make your own though, and distribute them to other people. Let me know if you do, and if you like you I'll bundle them in with this package. Or you could distribute them yourself.

I don't own Dungeon, but I have permission to sell it on behalf of the rightsholder Fender Tucker. I'm charging just $5 for it. (If even that's too much, you can probably find LOADSTAR 74 on other sites.) I have configured a stock copy of the Commodore 64 emulator VICE, and set up the files so that you can jump right in and play it through the itch.io app. (Hint: VICE emulates the C64's notoriously slow disk drive faithfully. Pressing Alt-W toggles "warp mode," greatly speeding up the emulation. Remember to only use it during disk access, the menus are hard to navigate in warp mode.)

Dungeon is primitive to look at and fairly simple in play, but you can still do a lot with it. There's a thousand secret gems of computer gaming out there. Many of them are lost forever, and if it weren't for LOADSTAR Dungeon probably would be. Please enjoy.
