Now available (again): 21 Atari Games to Love and 8-Bit Obituaries
The Atari VCS and 8-Bit Obituaries books, formerly only available through long-expired Storybundles, are now available on their own for $5 each! A couple more such releases might turn up in the coming days.
21 Unexpected Games to Love For the Atari VCS covers games made back then that still hold up (if you can put up with the console's limtations, of course) to modern tastes. Games like Dragonstomper, an often-ignored early RPG with some surprisingly modern features, or the atmospheric and unique Mountain King, or Adventure (of course), or its spooky and less-remembered cousin Haunted House!
8-Bit Obituaries is a sometimes humorous, but still respectful, look at some of the lesser lights of the NES library. Games line Athena, Deadly Towers, Mighty Bomb Jack and Superman. They're hard to love sometimes (or most of the times), but there is something loveable there. When you got a game for Christmas and it was all you had to play until $GIFTDATENEXT, then by gaw you played it, and in the process you might have come to learn the secret joys of games like Amagon, Friday the 13th or The Legend of Kage. You might not have admitted you enjoyed them in the schoolyard, but it's okay. We won't tell anyone.
